Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation and the Wisconsin League for Nursing Award More than $25,000 in Nursing Scholarships
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation (Anthem), the charitable giving arm of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin League for Nursing (WLN) today awarded 30 scholarships to students pursuing an licensed practical nursing (LPN) degree, registered nursing (RN) degree, or graduate nursing degree at an accredited nursing college in the state. At the 2007 WLN Fall Conference, Anthem presented more than $30,000 in scholarships, ranging from $500-$1000 each. Students were selected based on scholastic ability, involvement in professional activities and/or community service, understanding of the nursing profession, definitive goals upon graduation, and financial need.
“We are pleased to continue our relationship with the Wisconsin League of Nursing to offer this beneficial scholarship program for the fourth year,” said Steve Martenet, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “Our goal for this scholarship program is to make a positive impact on the critical nursing shortage and continue advancing the quality of nursing education in Wisconsin. Congratulations and thank you to each candidate for his/her continued efforts in making a difference in the health care industry.”

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation focuses its funding on strategic initiatives that address and provide innovative solutions to reduce the number of uninsured as well as organizations and nonprofit charities that promote the Healthy Generations Program, a multi-generational initiative that targets specific disease states and medical conditions. The Foundation’s program emphasis is on local health care issues including prenatal care in the first trimester, low birth weight babies, cardiac morbidity rates, long term activities that decrease obesity and increase physical activity, diabetes prevalence in adult populations, adult pneumococcal and influenza vaccinations and smoking cessation.
