The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a permanent component of Anthem’s health care strategy.
Anthem is committed to delivering excellent service. Part of that commitment includes compliance with and support of the HIPAA mandates. Anthem met its compliance obligations with respect to the HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets Rule prior to the October 16, 2003, mandatory compliance date. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets Toolkit
The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is pleased to provide the HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets Toolkit. This toolkit is designed as a resource for hospitals, physicians and other health care professional to help them better understand the new HIPAA transactions and code requirements, as well as to promote compliance. It is important to note that the Transactions and Code Set Toolkit is NOT the BCBS compliance manual. Rather, it is one of many tools that health care professionals and institutions may use to assist them in understanding the responsibilities and tasks necessary to become HIPAA compliant. more
HIPAA Security

HIPAA National Provider Identifier
The HIPAA National Provider Identifier Final Rule (NPI) issued January 23, 2004, offers each physician, health care professional and institution one unique identifier for all transactions related to the rendition of and payment for health care services. Ultimately, the NPI will replace all existing identification numbers including Medicare, Medicaid and all payers’ identification numbers including the Anthem provider identification number. As promised in its Business Associate Agreement with its Administrative Services only (ASO) group health plans, Anthem is pleased to offer a sample ASO Privacy Notice that may be used as a template by our ASO customers. Please read, review, and evaluate the template Notice carefully to make sure it will satisfy your needs. Note that use of this Notice is governed in Section III of the standard Anthem Business Associate Agreement that was recently sent to you.
