Effective January 1, 2012, Walgreens Pharmacies No Longer Participating in Anthem Plans
In October 2011, Anthem mailed a letter to plan members informing them that Walgreens intended to leave the Express Scripts (Anthem’s Pharmacy Benefit Manager) network of participating pharmacies. Walgreens has decided that effective January 1, 2012 that it will no longer be an in-network participating pharmacy. Anthem will send a letter in December to notify plan members who have utilized Walgreens, of this change. The letter will provide three participating drug stores in the member’s area and instructions on how to switch their prescription(s) to an in-network pharmacy. Members will need to take action and transfer their prescription(s) from Walgreens prior to January 1, 2012. Additionally, Anthem will make electronic calls to affected member’s homes with this information.
