For over 60 years, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has strived to provide its members with quality, affordable health coverage. Blue Preferred®/Blue Preferred® Primary (HMO) is a health maintenance organization (HMO) that continues this tradition.
We encourage you to look through this information to learn how the Blue Preferred/Blue Preferred Primary (HMO) plan’s straightforward, coordinated care can work for you. We look forward to welcoming you to Anthem.
Working with Your PCP
The Blue Preferred Primary plan features a network with some of the area’s best physicians. As a member, you will select a primary care physician (PCP) from this network. Your PCP is your main partner when it comes to taking care of your health and is usually the doctor with the most knowledge of your medical history. Thus, your PCP can assist you with important decisions regarding your health. Our goal is that, with this guidance, your health care can be coordinated more effectively and your related costs are likely to decrease — saving you money.
No Referrals Needed
While your PCP is your partner in coordinating care, you do not need a referral to see another doctor within the extensive Blue Preferred Primary network. This plan feature saves you the hassle and extra copayment associated with visiting your PCP before seeing any other health care provider. The result is that you enjoy more control, less hassles and potential cost savings.
Even though your PCP no longer needs to refer you to a specialist or another network provider, he or she is still your main partner in health-related decisions. In addition, your PCP is often a point of contact for Anthem, especially when our disease management programs are utilized. Thus, it is important to keep your PCP informed about your health.
