Emergency physicians on the front lines joined Anthem Foundation in the creation of this resource to empower families with accurate, useful information to keep children happy, healthy and out of the emergency room. Available in English and Spanish, the booklet is available in time to address summer vacation safety and beyond.
“As part of ACEP’s mission to advance emergency care, we recognize the extreme importance of education,” said Frederick Blum, M.D., president, American College of Emergency Physicians. “Emergency physicians too often see the tragic consequences of childhood injuries, many of which could have been prevented. This booklet offers the information that will help parents prevent such incidents.”
The guide, which represents the first collaboration between ACEP and a leading health insurer, is a key component of Anthem's broader "Healthy Parenting Initiative," which focuses on empowering families with information and resources to lead healthier lives.
Anthem Foundation will make Healthy Habits for Safe Kids available to the general public, health care professionals, Anthem's members and nearly 23,000 emergency physicians starting July 2006. It will be made available electronically through Anthem's Web site, http://www.anthem.com/ca, and via the ACEP Web site, http://www.acep.org.
“If an emergency occurs, your local emergency physicians stand ready to provide state-of-the-art care to your children.” Dr. Blum stated. "Each year in the United States, emergency departments treat more than 200,000 children ages 14 and younger for playground-related injuries alone. ACEP is proud to partner with Anthem Foundation to bring families Healthy Habits for Safe Kids.”
