Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin Has Reached An Agreement with Aspirus Health

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin has reached a new agreement to keep Aspirus Health in our members’ care provider network for the next three years. This new agreement means that all Anthem Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members as well as all individual and employer-based plan members with Blue Preferred, Blue Access, and Blue Traditional networks will continue to receive in-network health benefits when receiving care at all Aspirus locations and physician practices.

We are committed to providing Wisconsin health care consumers access to quality, affordable healthcare and this agreement achieves that goal in 2023 and beyond. We deeply value our collaborative relationships with this community’s care providers and we’re proud that our members have in-network access to 98% of Wisconsin hospitals and 97% of doctors.

Q) Will members with Anthem’s Blue Priority Network have in-network access to Aspirus after December 31, 2022?

Anthem’s Blue Priority Network will not include Aspirus Health beginning in 2023.  Members in this network may call our customer service center for help finding alternate care providers. You may be able to continue your care at Aspirus for a limited time if you are receiving certain types of care. Under federal law, this includes care if you are:

  • In treatment for a serious and complex condition. This can be a sudden (acute) illness that requires specialized treatment in order to avoid death or permanent harm. It can also be an ongoing (chronic) illness that is life threatening or potentially disabling and requires specialized care over a long period of time.
  • In a hospital or other inpatient facility.
  • Scheduled for nonelective surgery by your current doctor, including your post-operative care for the surgery.
  • Pregnant.
  • Terminally ill.

In addition to federal law, your plan may allow you to stay with Aspirus for a limited time if you’re receiving certain types of care. Please review your plan documents for information about Continuity of Care. You can find them by logging in to anthem.com. Under My Plan, go to your medical benefits page. Or you can call us at the Member Services number on your ID card.
