Anthem Blue Cross, Sutter Health Reach Multi-Year Agreement
Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) and Sutter Health have reached a new multi-year agreement for Sutter Health to continue as part of the Anthem’s network.
The agreement continues coverage for all lines of Anthem’s business, including individual, small group, large group, Medi-Cal, Medicare, etc., although all Sutter facilities may not participate in all lines of Anthem’s business.
“Slowing the growth in health care costs for our customers while providing access to quality medical care is a top priority for Anthem Blue Cross,” said Mark Morgan, president of Anthem Blue Cross. “We are happy that we’ve been able to work with Sutter to do just that. In addition to slowing the growth of health care costs, our new contract includes transparency measures that allow Anthem to inform our members of the bundled estimated costs of scheduled procedures at Sutter hospitals through our Anthem Care Comparison tool.”
Because the contract between Anthem and Sutter was set to expire at the end of 2013, some Anthem members received a legally-mandated letter from Anthem notifying them that they would be assigned to a new primary care doctor and/or medical group effective Jan. 1, 2014. With the new contract in place, members will be receiving an additional notice informing them they can keep their Sutter Health doctors.
Sutter Health continues to negotiate with Aetna, Health Net, United Healthcare and others to renew contracts for 2014, according to this Web site.
