Pam Kehaly Assumes Role Overseeing West Region, Specialty Business & Strategy Nationally
Anthem Blue Cross announced today that Mark Morgan has been named president of Anthem Blue Cross.
“At this turning point in health care, Mark is uniquely qualified and prepared for this role,” said West Region President Pam Kehaly. “His extensive experience in all market segments will greatly benefit our efforts in improving health care access and affordability in California.”
Morgan has more than two decades of experience in the industry, having held senior leadership positions with significant strategic and profit and loss responsibility at Health Net and Anthem Blue Cross. In his new role, Morgan will oversee the management of Anthem’s commercial business and strategy in California.
“Pam did a fantastic job preparing our company for health care reform, and my goal is to continue the momentum we’ve already started,” said Morgan. “I look forward to the challenge of leading an organization that already serves millions of Californians and will add hundreds of thousands more in the coming months with the exchange.”
Prior to being named president, Morgan served as Anthem Blue Cross’s chief operating officer managing the day to day operations of Anthem’s commercial business since June 2013, and as Vice President and General Manager of California’s Individual and Small Group business before that.
Before joining Anthem Blue Cross, Morgan began his career at Health Net, where he had leadership roles across all lines of business to include Large Group, Small Group, and Individual and Family Plans as well as product development, marketing, sales and underwriting.
Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from California State University, Northridge and a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University. He has been a licensed agent for over 10 years and has earned the Group Benefits Associate designation from the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist program.
Kehaly, the former leader of Anthem Blue Cross, will oversee the West Region including California, Nevada and Colorado. She will also lead Anthem’s specialty business, consisting of dental, vision, Life, Disability and Workers Compensation nationwide. Kehaly assumed the new role in June, but retained the title of Anthem Blue Cross president. She now formally hands that role off to Morgan. Both Kehaly and Morgan will continue to be based in Thousand Oaks.
