Update on Hartford HealthCare contract negotiations

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut (Anthem) and Hartford HealthCare Corporation (HHC) have been in contract negotiations for several months.

Our current contract with HHC expires on October 1, 2020. While we remain committed to reaching a new agreement, we are required by state law to notify our members about the status of these negotiations. We sent that notice 60 days before our current contract is set to expire, as required. The same law automatically extends the existing agreement for 60 days after the contract ends. That means HHC will remain in Anthem’s plans’ networks until December 1, 2020, in the event we do not reach a new agreement. This gives both organizations four months to work out the terms of a new contract.

There are no immediate changes to our members’ health plans at this time.

What happens next? We’ll continue to actively negotiate with HHC in an effort to reach a new agreement that protects affordability for our members. Our organizations have a long history of partnership, and we understand how important these hospitals and doctors are to the people of Connecticut. Contract negotiations are standard in the health care industry and are a part of the way Anthem works to ensure access, quality, and affordability.

We’ll keep working to reach an agreement that keeps HHC’s hospitals and doctors in our members’ health plans’ networks.
