Anthem has products designed to help employees find solutions to the rising cost of prescription drugs.
The average American used 11.5 retail prescriptions in 2002 at a total cost of $707.59.1 Escalating prescription costs affect overall health care costs and the bottom line. Anthem’s award-winning pharmacy benefit manager provides a full range of services that may help employees control their prescription drug expenses.
The Express Scripts Home Delivery pharmacy (home delivery) offers employees fast delivery (within 10 business days) of their maintenance medications right to their homes, offices — or wherever they choose within the United States. Employees may also:
save money through fewer copayments, by asking their doctors to prescribe the maximum supply their plan allows.
order refills, check the status of an order and review their prescription history, 24 hours a day, via Internet or phone.
feel confident in knowing we have a 99.99 percent accuracy rating, with multiple quality checks for each order by our licensed pharmacists.
Generics Offer Savings and Choices
Employees may save money by requesting generic equivalent medications. Generics contain the same active ingredients as brand-name medications and are required by the Food and Drug Administration to perform in an equivalent manner.
Generic drugs can cost anywhere from 25 percent to 80 percent less than their brand-name counterparts.2
There are currently more than 500 generic drugs available on the Anthem formulary. Generic drugs are added to the formulary as soon as they become widely available.
In an effort to help save employees money, Anthem automatically converts members to the generic unless the brand-name drug is required by law, or the member or his or her doctor instructs otherwise.
Broad Access and Expertise
Anthem offers access to one of the largest formularies in the United States, as well as a national network of thousands of local and chain pharmacies. Employees may search for a participating pharmacy online by visiting anthem.com and clicking on Prescription under Plans & Benefits. This resource is updated weekly to provide members with the most up-to-date information.
