Anthem Blue Cross : Healthy Families Program to Medi-Cal Transition

Healthy Families Program to Medi-Cal Transition

Children enrolled in the Healthy Families Program (HFP) began transitioning to Medi-Cal (MC) on January 1, 2013 and will continue throughout the year. The change is the result of a decision by state lawmakers to merge the health care programs for children into one program. The transition of HFP enrollees to Medi-Cal will simplify eligibility and coverage for children and families while providing additional benefits and lowering costs for children whose families are at or below certain income levels.
The following documents and links provide background and resources for the transition, and are placed here for the convenience of the Healthy Families and Medi-Cal providers.

Provider Training

Anthem invited providers to attend trainings about the transition. The training sessions began in January and served as a transition orientation, to explain the differences and similarities between the two programs, and to outline the potential affect of the transition on you and your patients. If you were not able to join a training, the information covered in the orientation is provided in the following PowerPoint presentation.

The Healthy Families Program (HFP) provides low cost health, dental and vision coverage to uninsured children in low wage families. HFP members can choose between several health plans including Anthem Blue Cross to administer services.
Anthem Blue Cross has participated in the HFP network of plans since 1998. Children from low income families may qualify for the HFP. These families earn too much to qualify for no-cost- Medi-Cal. Anthem Blue Cross proudly offers no deductibles, small copayments for specific services and a vast network of providers to serve California children.
