We have all had to adjust our personal routines the past few months because of the worldwide pandemic. As we work to find a new normal, there are things you and your family can do to stay safe and protected. Below are eight practical habits to help guide your decisions and keep you healthy.
 
New ways to greet someone
  • Try a head nod, elbow bump, a wave or any greeting where you are not touching hands.
  • It is acceptable to turn down a handshake or a hug.
Hand-washing practices
  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water often.
  • Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
  • You have most likely already seen more businesses, restaurants and retailers readily offering hand sanitizer.
  • Create habits and reminders to avoid touching your face and cover your coughs and sneezes.
Regular cleaning
  • Disinfect common surfaces like tables, handrails, doorknobs, coffeepot and faucet handles.
Telehealth for care
  • Ask your primary care doctor or other health care providers about which care appointments you need to make in person and which can be virtual visits, if available.
Exercise and nutrition
  • Eat nutritious foods, stay hydrated, exercise regularly and turn in early for plenty of sleep.
  • Continue normal activities that help lower your stress levels.

Health monitoring
  • Watch for any symptoms of COVID-19 and take your temperature twice a day.
  • Call your doctor and stay home if you have a fever or feel sick.
Covering your face
  • Wear a cloth face covering around others because of how COVID-19 spreads.
  • Safely remove your cloth face covering after visiting the grocery store or other public places by first sanitizing your hands.
Keeping a safe distance
  • Remain cautious when going out in public and seeing family and friends outside of your home.
  • Consider social distancing and socialize with 10 or fewer people at a time. Avoid large gatherings.
  • Use delivery options for groceries, medicines and restaurants.
Your health, wellness and safety are still priorities. That is why it is important to continue to do everything you can to be healthy.
