PREVENTION AND GETTING CARE

Maintain Your Medication Routine

April 22, 2020

If you take prescription medications on an ongoing basis, continuing to take your medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor is important and can help prevent bigger health problems later. These tips might help:

Have your medication delivered to your home. If you have pharmacy benefits, your plan might cover a mail or home delivery program. Many retail pharmacies are offering free delivery to your door, while others offer drive-through service.

Consider a video or phone visit with your doctor if you need a prescription.  Many doctors are now offering telehealth visits. Check with your doctor to see if this is an option.

Take daily medications at the time of day your doctor prescribed. Follow your doctor’s orders on when to take medications and how much to take. Your doctor will know the best time to effectively take your dose.

Use a pill organizer container or calendar. It makes it easier to remember if you’ve taken your medication. If you have a calendar, mark each day and time you take your medication. Refill pill containers at the same time each week.

Don’t stop taking a prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor. Your doctor should be the one who advises you to stop taking a medication.

Taking care of your health is the single most important thing you can do for yourself during this pandemic. Stick to your doctor’s plan and reach out if you have questions.
