Keeping Healthcare Affordable for Hoosiers

May 05, 2025
Important Information for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Members About Our Negotiations with Parkview Health

We’re working with Parkview Health to improve access to affordable healthcare. Our current contract with Parkview expires on August 1, 2025. We are in good faith negotiations to keep them in our network beyond that date. We are confident a new agreement will be reached that improves healthcare affordability for our members.

What’s Happening?
Anthem’s network contract with Parkview Health is set to end August 1, 2025. This contract sets the prices Parkview Health charges to its patients covered by Anthem. As we work collaboratively to extend our members’ in-network access to Parkview, our goal is to improve healthcare affordability for the patients, employers, and taxpayers that pay for care.

Our Commitment to Affordability
Anthem is dedicated to improving access to high-quality, affordable healthcare for all Hoosiers. Here’s why:
  • According to KFF surveys, about half of U.S. adults say it’s difficult to afford healthcare costs and, alarmingly, one in four adults delayed needed care because of high costs.
  • Employers are also affected; 85% of Northeast Indiana employers pay their employees’ healthcare claims directly – this means that high healthcare costs put them at a disadvantage vs. other parts of the state and the Midwest. High costs can limit wages, hiring, investment, and growth.
That’s why we negotiate on behalf of our members to secure affordable care at Parkview and all our provider partners.

Our Proposal: Fair Payment for Parkview, Payment Increases for Physicians, and Affordable Care for Our Members
We’ve requested Parkview lower prices at their hospitals and other care facilities to match other top Indiana health systems. We’re also offering a significant payment rate increase for Parkview’s doctors. Our proposed rate increase for Parkview physicians and specialists is part of Anthem’s ongoing effort to retain and attract world-class medical professionals to Indiana. Additionally, we propose incentives that offer Parkview the opportunity to earn millions in additional revenue through high quality care delivery.

Together, our offered rates would meaningfully lower cost trends and bring much-needed price trend relief for Parkview patients and their employers, while still maintaining Parkview’s position as one of the state’s best-paid health systems.

Commitment to Keeping Parkview Health in Our Networks
Anthem and Parkview continue to work collaboratively to reach a new, long-term agreement. We want Parkview to remain in our network. We believe Parkview shares our commitment to this community and wants to avoid care disruption as much as we do. We are confident we will reach a new agreement before our current contract ends on August 1, 2025.

Please continue to check this website for updates. We will provide more information as negotiations continue.

Will an agreement be reached to keep Parkview in Anthem’s network?
We’re optimistic a new agreement will be reached, and that’s what we’re working toward. We want to keep Parkview in our network because we know our members receiving care at Parkview depend on their doctors and hospitals. However, it’s important that we work with Parkview to make care more affordable for their patients covered by Anthem.

Where can I go for information and updates?
We will update this website as negotiations continue. Anthem members may also login to the Sydney Health app or anthem.com or call our Member Service Center at the number on their ID card for more information.

Parkview says that they have already proposed rates that would bring their prices below what they were in 2020. Isn’t this acceptable?
Parkview’s statement is true but a bit misleading. Parkview’s prices in 2020 were far higher than any other system in Indiana. Since then, Parkview has worked with us to moderate prices, and we hope to continue that collaborative work to bring Parkview’s prices in line with Indiana’s other top health systems.
