How a nurse case manager helped a family navigate cancer care

A cancer diagnosis can turn life upside down. When Jason learned he had multiple myeloma (a blood cancer) he and his wife, Julie, had a lot of questions — along with a calendar full of visits and tests. That’s when Molly, an Anthem nurse case manager, stepped in to help.

Support during cancer treatment

Anthem supports the whole health of members and their families, including physical health, behavioral health, and social needs that can affect healing. For Jason, his nurse case manager connected him with the right care for the type of cancer he had.

Myeloma care often involves different doctors and treatments, and it can be hard to know where to start. Jason’s nurse case manager explained that there’s insurance help for myeloma. Molly shared what his health plan covered and lined up his care with his benefits, so he could get the services he needed.

Molly offered help with appointments and help scheduling cancer treatments. She also assisted with phone calls, forms, questions, and the next steps in Jason’s care.

With Molly's assistance, Jason and Julie could spend less time managing details and more time focusing on their family. "Having that support from my health plan really gave me back my life," Jason said.
