Collaboration adds new services, community resources to weekly outreach program in the Short North

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio and Southeast Healthcare are expanding services available through its weekly outreach program for individuals experiencing homelessness or those with health or social support needs.

Anthem works with Southeast Healthcare to deliver coordinated services and care referrals at its Welcome Center in the Short North neighborhood every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Southeast Healthcare’s Rapid Response Emergency Addiction Crisis Team (RREACT) provides essential outreach services such as case management and medication-assisted treatment for individuals impacted by addiction. The weekly program is open to the public and offers services at no cost.

Starting this Wednesday, Anthem will expand its outreach program to include additional services such as haircuts, access to technology, and on-site support for members with questions about benefits and care options. Community organizations will also participate each week, offering referrals and education on local resources to help address social and health-related needs.

“By expanding these services, we’re meeting people where they are and connecting them to the resources they need to improve their health and well-being,” said Michelle Stoughton, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio’s government business. “Our collaboration with Southeast Healthcare and community organizations allows us to reach more people and provide meaningful, coordinated support.”

“We see every day how important it is to have immediate, accessible support available in the community,” said James Alexander, MSW, LICDC-CS, SWA, RREACT and HOPE program director for Southeast Healthcare. “Every interaction is an opportunity to make a difference. Together with Anthem, we’re breaking down barriers to care and creating pathways to recovery and improved health.”

Since its launch in 2023, the program has connected more than 1,500 individuals in the greater Columbus area to care and community resources.
